City Hotel

On historic Piazza della Republicca with its beautiful Naiadi fountain, guests pass through revolving doors into one of Boscolo Hotel's two five-star hotels in the Italian capital. A hotel chain that specializes in large-scale European (new outposts in Budapest and Prague) hotel palaces, the Boscolo family pulls-out all of the stops in Rome. A massive two-story hotel lobby is decked-out in glamorous white-paneled walls accented by crystal chandeliers, creamy-marble floors and modern brightly-colored gold sofas.

Designers incorporate a mix of classic Italian architecture with modern fixtures spotlighting architectural elements like a dramatic ceiling and vaulted porticoes. The hotel's main restaurant, La Frusta, was designed by Adam Tihany and features a black-and-white color palette with red-lacquered hostess area, dark wood paneling and stripped-leather banquettes. Those looking for a more causal dining experience can also sit on the outdoor terrace overlooking the Piazza, or at the Tazio Bar. A rooftop pool and wellness center includes one of the best day spas in Rome, not to mention one of the best city views.

The Room

A bewilderingly large hotel, it has 240 rooms, is surprisingly easy to navigate with a central elevator leading to each decadently carpeted hallway. Standard guest rooms offer striped-gold walls with thick-framed mirrors and gilded-wood furnishings. King-size beds offer high-thread count linens and upholstered headboards " not too mention amazing blackout curtains and soundproofing. Bathrooms are modern and well sized with artsy vanity area and separate bathtub and shower combinations. Larger junior suites and suites overlook Piazza della Repubblica with its beautiful Naiadi fountain, Michelangelo's Basilica of Santa Maria degli Angeli and the ruins of the ancient Roman Diocleziano thermal baths. Each suite has its own dining room, living room, and private bar with a selection of wines and drinks stocked in advance. Larger bi-level suites, surprisingly affordable during the winter, offer private thermal spas complete with hammam and outdoor lounge area.
